What is DiSC®?

DiSC® is a model that explains human behaviour. It describes different behavioural styles and preferences.

DiSC profile is a feedback report on person's behavior for which one must fill in a questionnaire. DiSC profiles can be used in teams or individually. Learn more about different DiSC profiles.

  • Each person has a natural behavioural style
  • There are no good or bad DiSC behavioural styles; rather, there are good or not so good skills to manage your own natural behavioural style

In some situations, your own natural behavioural style is the best one. In other situations, everything does not go so smoothly and you need to consciously adapt your behaviour - to act in a way that does not come naturally to you.

Once you are familiar with the natural behaviour of yourself and others and know how to adapt yourself accordingly, you will be able to work with others better and more effectively. This is exactly what the DiSC tools are for.

The acronym DiSC comes from the first letters of the four major behavioral dimensions:

D (Dominance) - direct, results-oriented, strong-willed and forceful
i  (influence) - outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic and lively
S (Steadiness) - even-tempered, accommodating, patient and humble
C (Conscientiousness) - meticulous, reserved, precise and systematic

The theory of DiSC was established by Dr. William Marston from Columbia University. It was further developed, among others by Dr. John Geier and Inscape Publishing in cooperation with the University of Minnesota, and now Everything DiSC (a Wiley brand), which specialises in the creation of development tools and in scientific research.

During the past 40 years, over 50 million people have benefited from DiSC model and training tools. DiSC partners and certified trainers form the biggest network of HR experts in the whole world - here is your chance to join us!
