How to introduce DiSC to your organisation or clients

Before you can run a DiSC® programme, someone has to say yes to it: a manager with the budget, an HR director, or a client who has seen personality tools come and go. This guide, based on advice from Wiley, the publisher of Everything DiSC, helps you prepare that conversation and plan the rollout.

Win over the decision-makers

People respond to stories, and budgets run on numbers. You need both.

Your story

Think about why you want to use DiSC, what you expect to change, and what you’ve experienced yourself. A short example from your own practice, or from another organisation, is often more convincing than a list of features.

The case for DiSC

Choose the points that matter most to the person you’re talking to:

  • It’s proven. More than a million people take an Everything DiSC assessment every year.
  • It’s easy to remember, so people keep using it after the workshop, and there are follow-up tools to support that.
  • It’s researched. Wiley publishes the research behind the assessment, and you can share it.
  • It’s flexible. Organisations use it in onboarding, team development, management and leadership programmes, and sales training.
  • It’s about relationships, not only individuals. Every profile shows how people differ and how they can still work well together.
  • It leads to action. Each profile includes concrete steps for working with, managing, leading or selling to others.

Adapt the message to the listener’s style. A D-style director will want to know the result and the cost. A C-style HR lead will want to see the research. An i-style manager may respond best to a story, and an S-style manager to how it will affect the team.

Let them try it

Show a sample profile. Better still, have the decision-maker take the assessment. Our experience is that the most convincing step is when you both take it and look at your Comparison Report together.

Choose the right profile

If the organisation is new to DiSC, we recommend starting with Everything DiSC Workplace on the Catalyst platform. It introduces the model and a shared language, and works for groups with different roles. Management and Agile EQ can be added on Catalyst later without people retaking the assessment. See our overview of all profiles.

Write a short proposal

  • A goal statement: what should change? For example, integrating new team members faster, better communication between teams, stronger management skills or better client relationships.
  • A budget: profiles, external facilitation if you need it, and the time participants will spend.
  • A note on reuse: profiles stay in the account. When new people join, only they take the assessment, and their results can be combined with existing ones in team reports and free Comparison Reports.
  • The Cornerstone Principles and a sample profile with a few sections highlighted.

Plan the first session

Participants want to know what’s in it for them. Some will also want to hear that the results won’t be used for hiring or promotion. Say it clearly.

Many organisations start small: one team goes first, gives feedback, and that feedback helps win support for a wider rollout.
